Gerard, Metrotile or KAZROOF: a breakdown of composite roof tile brands
Imported brands cost twice as much as the Kazakhstani one. We look at what exactly you get for that difference — and when you really need it.
The material of all three brands is of the same class: a steel sheet with an aluminium-zinc layer and natural stone chips. There is no fundamental difference in technology. The difference is a twofold price, where the warranty is serviced, and whether the tiles are in stock in Kazakhstan or shipped to order. On a 180 m² roof, switching from KAZROOF to Metrotile adds about 1.76 million ₸ to the estimate.
Who is who
One of the oldest manufacturers of stone-coated steel tiles, a brand with a history and a worldwide name. In Kazakhstan it is represented by a dealer network with no warehouse of its own — delivery is to order.
A European manufacturer with a wide range of profiles — from the classic Bond to Woodshake imitating wooden shingles. There is an official distributor in Kazakhstan, a warehouse and same-day dispatch.
A Kazakhstani manufacturer with two ranges: Standart and Premium. Warehouses in Almaty, Astana and Shymkent, delivery across the country, warranty serviced within Kazakhstan.
What it costs on one roof
Take the same house as in our other breakdowns: a 120 m² footprint, a gable roof, about 180 m² of roofing. Including cutting waste — 193 m² of material. Accessories of 18% are added to the tiles; installation is not counted so that we compare pure material.

A gap of more than twofold. Yet the class of material is the same for all: a steel base with an aluminium-zinc coating and baked-on stone chips. The technology comes from New Zealand and has spread around the world over decades — there are no fundamentally different “secrets” in these panels.

The honest answer: not for the panel’s composition, but for three things.
The brand’s reputation and age. Gerard and Metrotile have been on the market for decades, their roofs stand all over the world, and that is literally time-tested. Kazakhstani production has no such history yet — it is younger. For some customers this is the deciding argument, and there is nothing to dispute here.
Profiles nobody else has. Metrotile Woodshake imitates wooden shingles and has no direct equivalent in the budget segment. If you want exactly that look, there is essentially no choice. This is the most honest reason to pay more.
The feeling of “European quality”. Let’s be straightforward: part of the premium is the price of import and brand, not a measurable advantage of the panel. In the comparative specifications, steel thickness, coating composition and factory warranty are comparable for Metrotile and KAZROOF Premium.
What matters more than the brand: local support
A roof lives for decades, and the question is not whose name is on the box, but what happens in five years when you need ten replacement panels or a warranty claim.

This is where the difference is tangible. A warranty serviced in the country is not the same as one where you have to write to the other hemisphere. And an accessory sitting in a warehouse in Almaty is not the same as one that will take two months to reach you.
A separate note on Gerard: the brand has a worldwide reputation, but its presence in Kazakhstan is weaker — no warehouse of its own, the warranty is stated by the dealer, and there is no public price at all. This is not a complaint about the material, it is a feature of its presence on our market, and it is worth taking into account.
How to choose
- You need a specific look that others don’t have — Metrotile Woodshake. The extra cost is clearly justified.
- Brand recognition matters and you are ready to pay for it — Metrotile: it has a warehouse and a factory warranty in Kazakhstan, so the extra cost is at least backed by service.
- You want the longest service life for reasonable money — KAZROOF Premium: a 40-year warranty like Metrotile at almost half the price.
- You count every tenge — KAZROOF Standart: the same class of material, a 20-year warranty, service within the country.
- You are considering Gerard — ask the dealer for the warranty terms and delivery time in writing before you approve the estimate.
And most importantly: the difference between brands on a real roof is measured in millions of tenge, not percent. Before accepting an offer, calculate your area in two or three options — numbers convince better than a salesperson’s arguments.
